Premium coated abrasive strips give this buff the flexibility to deburr, round edges, and finely grind contoured parts with more aggression than a non-woven airway.
Narrow 120 grit cloth sanding belt strips are held by a steel clinch ring and allowed to play across the work surface, leveling textured surfaces and pits with ease while producing a smooth finish roughly equivalent to a 180 grit sanding disc. Combines the fast cut of coated abrasives with the flexibility of a buffing wheel; finish and stock removal can be modified with speed and pressure:
- Increase RPMs and use reduced pressure to grind more aggressively.
- Reduce RPMs and use increased pressure to allow the strips to flex and blend.
Unlike paper discs, much less prone to glazing and loading. Especially useful for:
- Removing tar, adhesive, silicone, etc.
- Removing Durabrite/Accushield coatings
- Grinding down areas inaccessible to conventional sanding tools (drive wheel water channel, diamond plate, step grating, welds, cast aluminum, etc.)
Coated abrasive strips have abrasive grains bonded to a flexible cloth backing, whereas non-woven abrasives consist of abrasive grains embedded in a nylon fiber matrix. Coated abrasives are often preferred where aggressive stock removal and increased lifespan is desired.
Where practical, we recommend trying our V-Fold Abrasive Finger Buff in 180 grit before proceeding to this buff from a Strip Ring Airway in 180 grit. It's shape and folding lends to increased aggression without using a more coarse grit.
Pairs with: Coated abrasive buffs are not used with buffing compounds; the abrasive effect is (typically) achieved by aluminum oxide or silicon carbide abrasives bonded to a cloth backing. They can, however, be paired with sanding greases to produce a more forgiving cut and extend their lifespan.
Coated abrasive buffing wheels do not need raking. Does not include a center reducer plate. Requires the use of a self-centering safety flange set or standard end flanges (ideally) in conjunction with a center reducer plate for proper mounting and safe operation. Industrial grade.
Hilzinger Max RPM: 10″ x 3″ = 1,300 RPM
